This is a busy time of year. However, there are a lot of expectations. It is easy to become overwhelmed. You don’t have to feel that way. Our common basic needs are rest, food, and water. But we also need purpose, relationships, connections, and meaning. Take your care of needs, then you can take care of others.
Try these tips to take care of your basic needs.
- First, stay hydrated. You might be rushing around, but have a bottle of water ready to go on the counter before you leave the house.
- Next, don’t skip meals and carry healthy snacks with you. You might be busy, but you need to fuel your body too!
- Maybe most importantly, get your sleep. Lack of sleep can have an impact on your immune system. Keep a notepad by the bed if you need to download your thoughts before you can sleep.
Staying connected is so important. Try these suggestions to help you connect to yourself and your loved ones.
- Make a date with your spouse or significant other. It doesn’t need to be fancy; it’s about taking the time to connect.
- Have coffee with a friend. Do they live far away? Call and chat.
- Finally, practice some self-care. What relaxes you? What makes you happy? Do that. We are still in the middle of a very difficult time. Take some time to reflect on what is essential to you.
